THREE AFRICAN FIRST LADIES DISCUSS AIDS ORPHANS IN AFRICA Washington, D.C., May 24, 2001 -- Three African First Ladies will take part in a discussion of "AIDS Orphans in Africa" on VOA's Africa Journal today at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, First Lady of Rwanda, will be live via satellite and Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, First Lady of Ghana, and Mrs. Patricia Muluzi, First Lady of Malawi, have both provided taped interviews. Clarence Hall, Director of HIV/AIDS Africare, and Emily Frye, AIDS Orphans Fund Raiser, will be in VOA's Washington studios. Guests on today's program will discuss:
U.S. President George W. Bush, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, and Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, recently announced a new global trust fund to combat AIDS. The United States has pledged $200 million and is asking other world governments, corporations, and private citizens to contribute.
