VOA to Provide Multi-Media Coverage
of Presidential Debates

Washington, D.C., Oct. 2, 2000 -- The Voice of America (VOA) will broadcast the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates live on radio, television, and via the Internet to its worldwide audience of some 91 million people. VOA News Now and WORLDNET Television will provide multi-media coverage of the first debate between the Presidential candidates, Vice President Al Gore and Texas Governor George W. Bush, at 9:00 p.m., EDT Oct. 3 (0100 UTC, Wed., Oct. 4). This will include live reaction from a group of diverse American voters convened at VOA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. The discussion will be moderated by a VOA journalist and will include expert opinions provided by participating political analysts and party representatives. The other scheduled Presidential debates will also air live on VOA radio and WORLDNET television, and will be live-streamed on the Internet at 9:00 p.m. EDT, Oct. 11 and 17 (0100 UTC, Oct. 12 and 18). The Vice Presidential debate between Senator Joseph Lieberman and Richard Cheney and will also air live at 9:00 p.m., EDT Oct. 5 (0100 UTC, Oct. 6).
