Washington, D.C., July 20, 2001 – Penny Dixon has been named the Eurasia Regional Editor for the Voice of America (VOA). Dixon is now responsible for the writing and editing of English language news items on Russia and the other newly independent states of the former Soviet Union. Dixon, who received her degree in European history at Brown in 1972, was introduced to VOA as a summer intern during college. She worked freelance as a writer and broadcaster for VOA before joining the agency full time as a news writer in September 1999. Dixon previously worked as a writer and editor for ABC Radio News in New York and Washington, as a writer for CNN television in Washington, and as a reporter and newscaster for radio stations WNCI and WTVN in Columbus, Ohio. The Voice of America is a multimedia broadcasting service funded by the U.S. Government. VOA broadcasts over 900 hours of news, informational, educational, and cultural programming every week to some 91 million worldwide.
