Washington, D.C., Nov. 2, 2000 -- On November 8 and 9, The Smithsonian Associates (TSA) and the Voice of America (VOA) will present the acclaimed WWII courtroom psychological drama based on Herman Wouk's novel, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. This live radio drama, the second in this year's "Radio Theatre Live" three-part series produced by L.A. Theatre Works, will be performed at VOA's Washington headquarters. A live audience of 500 plus will be treated to a behind-the-scenes look at a radio drama in production, complete with a foley artist producing sound effects live on stage. In addition, the performance will be taped for later worldwide broadcast by VOA and by dozens of National Public Radio affiliates in the U.S. Dan Lauria, (the father from ABC's "The Wonder Years"), New York actor Josh Stamberg, and David Selby ("Falcon Crest") join a talented cast of local actors in the radio adaptation of Herman Wouk's play, directed by Scot Reese, under the auspices of Ford's Theatre. L.A. Theatre Works' Susan Loewenberg is Executive Producer. Herman Wouk's play, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, was the sensation of the 1954 Broadway season. Wouk's story of a Naval commander relieved of duty by a subordinate during a WWII military operation is a work of fiction, but it is based on real-life case histories. The novel also served as the basis for the film version, entitled The Caine Mutiny, starring Humphrey Bogart. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the VOA Auditorium (VOA Headquarters, 330 Independence Avenue, S.W. Please use the C Street entrance). Tickets are $35.00 general admission and $28.00 for TSA members. The final drama in the series, American Appetites, was written and directed by Washington's own Nick Olcott, Associate Director of the Round House Theatre, and based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates. It stars Keith Carrodine and Mel Harris and will be performed at VOA on December 6 and 7.
