El Salvador's Vice President Appears on VOA's
Hablemos con Washington from Central America

Washington, D.C., March 26, 2002 -- El Salvador's Vice President Carlos Quintanilla Shmidt will be one of the guests on tonight's Hablemos con Washington broadcast live from VOA affiliate YSKL Radio Network in San Salvador, El Salvador. "We are thrilled to have such distinguished guests on the first broadcast we have ever done from Central America," said Hablemos host Tony Cano. 

Joining Vice President Quintanilla on the program are Maria Eugenia Brizuela de Avila, Foreign Minister of El Salvador; Miguel Lacayo, Economy Minister of El Salvador; Robert Rubio, President of the Private Sector Council of Honduras; and other guests.

The program will focus on President Bush's trip to Latin America, discussing the issues of U.S.-Latin American relations. The broadcast will be carried throughout El Salvador as well as on Radio Infinita, Guatemala; Radio Oriental, Honduras; Radio Rivas de Rumbos, Nicaragua; Radio Mia, Panama; and Radio Chiriquí y M.E.T.O., Panama.

Local VOA affiliates AM and FM in Central America will receive the broadcast via satellite. It will also be broadcast on shortwave and live streamed on the Internet at http://www.voanews.com/spanish.

The VOA Spanish Branch has been on the air since 1960. Today, VOA broadcasts a total of four hours of Spanish-language programming daily.

The Voice of America, which first went on the air on Feb. 24, 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. Government. VOA broadcasts over 1,000 hours of news, information, educational, and cultural programming every week to a worldwide audience of 94 million. Programs are produced in English and 52 other languages.
