NEW INDONESIAN AFFILIATES

BROADCAST VOA PROGRAMS LIVE VIA SATELLITE

Washington, D.C., March 6, 2000 --VOA Indonesian programs can now be heard "live" on local FM bands via two new Voice of America affiliates in Indonesia.  The stations, Radio NIKOYA/FM in Banda Aceh, at the northern tip of Sumatra, and Radio RCTFM in Semarang central Java, download and broadcast the VOA Indonesian evening program (6:30 to 7:30p.m. local time) daily. VOA now has over 100 affiliate stations in Indonesia.

With a listenership of approximately one million each, the two new affiliates offer VOA listeners a clear, high quality signal on their regular home radios.  The director of radio NIKOYA noted that VOA Indonesian's Halo Amerika program is the most popular VOA program in Aceh province, and probably in all Indonesia.  The manager of radio RCTFM said the VOA affiliation will give listeners in Semarang, "A window to the world."
