| Washington, D.C., Dec., 28, 2000 – The Voice
of America’s (VOA) new Indonesian-language TV program, Dunia Kita
(Our World), will air in Indonesia for the first time on Sunday,
Dec. 31. Produced in Washington using reports from VOA’s
video journalists around the world, VOA
is developing the 24-minute program for exclusive broadcast on VOA’s
newest TV affiliate in Indonesia – Metro TV – the country’s only all-news
channel.
Patterned after This Week, VOA’s
successful English language news magazine program, Dunia Kita will
provide VOA’s Indonesian audience with
world news and information tailored to their interests and daily life.
Dunia
Kita will cover stories from around the world as reported by VOA.
Topics will include business, entertainment, health, technology, and the
environment.
This Sunday’s Dunia Kita will include an analysis of the AIDS
epidemic in Africa, a report from Brazil on child labor, a background story
on imitation designer goods, and a feature on Nile River rafting.
Metro TV will carry Dunia Kita every Sunday at 3:30 p.m. (Jakarta
time).
VOA’s Indonesian
Service broadcasts two and a half hours of programming daily, including
a live, weekly TV call-in show entitled Halo VOA.
The Voice of America
broadcasts over 900 hours of news and information each week to an estimated
worldwide audience of 91 million regular listeners. Broadcasting
in 53 languages, VOA reaches its audience over radio, television, and the
Internet. Based on a survey done in 1999, independent research indicates
that the Voice of America has a regular audience of approximately 2 million
in Indonesia.
