Voice of America Serbian Correspondent Receives Otpor Award Voice of America Broadcasting Live From Seattle Macedonian Broadcasters at University of Missouri for Television Workshop

Named in Honor of Robert E. Kamosa Washington, D.C., June 22, 2001 – The International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB) has named its relay station on Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands in honor of the late Robert E. Kamosa, the former IBB engineering director. Mr. Kamosa played an integral part in the development and construction of the Tinian relay station, which supports the broadcasts of the Voice of America (VOA) and Radio Free Asia (RFA). The station first went on the air on January 15, 1999 improving shortwave transmission capabilities for audiences throughout East and Southeast Asia. The Tinian station fulfilled Kamosa’s vision of securing an international broadcasting presence on U.S. soil in the Pacific. The International Broadcasting Bureau provides engineering and transmission services for all U.S. Government-supported international broadcasting including VOA, Radio and Television Marti, Radio Free Asia and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Mr. Kamosa joined the Voice of America in 1983 as chief of its Quality Control Division. He later became the Deputy for Projects Management in the IBB’s Office of Engineering and Technical Operations. His responsibilities included directing and managing VOA’s technical modernization program. He died in 1999. Mr. Kamosa’s worked on the development of and security for new satellite and other communication equipment. Mr. Kamosa distinguished career included serving at the Department of Treasury’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing at the Goddard Space Flight Center for Bendix Field Engineering and at the Martin Nuclear Corporation. The International Broadcasting Bureau is an autonomous U.S. Government civilian broadcast service, which is composed of the Voice of America, WORLDNET Television, and the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti). IBB became autonomous on October 1, 1999, and is under the authority of the presidentially-appointed Broadcasting Board of Governors.
