Washington, D.C., Jan. 24, 2002 – The Voice of America’s (VOA) Kurdish Service launches its first ever call-in show, Hello Washington, on Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. EST. Listeners will discuss the status of the Kurdish people in Iran since President Khatami’s rise to power with guests Mr.Baha'uddin Adab, member of the Iranian Parliament from the Kurdish city of Sanandaj, and Mr. Khalid Azizi, the Washington representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, KDPI, the main Kurdish opposition group in Iran. The biweekly program, broadcast in the evening hours locally, will engage listeners in discussions of human rights, cultural rights and democratic representation for the Kurds. Kurdish Service Chief Homer Dizeyee commented, "Since VOA is the only international radio station broadcasting in Kurdish, we believe live discussions such as the ones we are planning in Hello Washington will be received with great enthusiasm."
