Washington, D.C., June 14, 2001 – On June 6, the Federal Republic of Germany awarded James M. Lambert the Order of Merit for his service as Director of Operations for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Munich, Germany and as Deputy for Engineering Operations of International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB). Instituted in 1951 by then Federal President Theodor Heuss, the Order of Merit is awarded for political, economic, social, or intellectual achievements. The award is the highest tribute that can be given to individuals for their services to Germany. In addition to the Order of Merit, Lambert was recently awarded the Legion of Merit from the U.S. Army after completing a 30-year career in the U.S. Army Reserves. Lambert resides with his wife Elke in Warrenton, VA.
