RADIO THEATRE LIVE IS BACK!
STARRING JEAN STAPLETON
IN
"ELEANOR - Her Secret Journey"
Washington, D.C., June 16, 2000 -- Once again, theater-goers in the Nation's Capital and millions of Voice of America listeners around the world will share in the excitement of live radio drama produced by L.A. Theatre Works and co-sponsored by The Smithsonian Associates and the Voice of America in collaboration with three of Washington's finest theaters, Arena Stage, the Round House Theatre, and Ford's Theatre.

"Radio Theatre Live" will kick-off its new season with Rhoda Lerman's "Eleanor - Her Secret Journey," starring Jean Stapleton, presented under the auspices of Arena Stage, Molly Smith, Artistic Director.  Stapleton, widely known for her role as Edith Bunker on "All in the Family," promises to give a riveting performance as Eleanor Roosevelt, one of America's most famous First Ladies.  The play centers on the years 1918 - 1922 in which Eleanor Roosevelt is said to have liberated her soul.  Producer Philip Langner, co-director of the Theatre Guild, has toured this production in various cities around the country to great acclaim.

The Washington debut of Lerman's one-woman play, originally directed for the stage by John Tillinger, will be directed for radio by Washington's own Nick Olcott, Associate Artistic Director of Round House Theatre, and will be performed at the Smithsonian Institution's Baird Auditorium at the National Museum of Natural History.  Performances will be held on Tuesday, June 27 and  Wednesday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $32.00 and seating is general admission.

For further information about ticket sales and future performances please contact The Smithsonian Associates at 202-357-3030.  Additional dramas in the subscription series will be performed in the fall.
