“BAREFOOT IN THE PARK” WITH AWARD-WINNING ACTORS
 ERIC STOLTZ AND LAURA LINNEY

Washington, D.C., May 25, 2001-- The Smithsonian Associates and Voice of America present "Barefoot in the Park,” a comedy by Neil Simon, starring Eric Stoltz, Golden Globe nominee for “Mask” and Laura Linney, 2000 Best Actress Oscar nominee for “You Can Count On Me."  The program is on Wednesday, June 13 and Thursday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Voice of America Auditorium, 330 Independence Avenue S.W. (entrance on C Street).

“Barefoot in the Park” is the second play in the L.A. Theatre Works’ spring 2001 “Radio Theatre – Live!” series in Washington. “Radio Theatre – Live!” is supported by the Capital Group Companies Inc. and the National Endowment for the Arts, and artistic collaborators include Arena Stage, Round House Theatre and Ford's Theatre.

“Barefoot in the Park” tells the story of a brand-new lawyer and his bride who have just returned from their honeymoon to their new, high-rent apartment.  To their surprise, the place is bare of furniture, the paint job is all wrong, the skylight leaks, and the bedroom only has room for one twin bed.  To make matters worse, the crazy neighbors visit at the worst times.

To order tickets for “Barefoot in the Park” or the final play in the “Radio Theatre – Live!” series, “A Lesson Before Dying,” call The Smithsonian Associates at (202) 357-3030 or visit www.SmithsonianAssociates.org. General admission tickets are $36.

The “Radio Theatre -- Live!” series offers audiences a unique opportunity to have a behind-the-scenes view of live radio drama in production and a chance to be part of the studio audience for the future broadcast of the play on Voice of America worldwide and on public radio in the United States.

The Smithsonian Associates is the educational and membership arm of the Smithsonian Institution. During its 30-year history, The Smithsonian Associates has come to be recognized as the nation’s premier museum-based education and travel program.
