VOA NEWS REVIEW  DEBUTS
A WEEKLY EXAMINATION OF CURRENT EVENTS

Washington, D.C., Nov. 2, 2000:  VOA News Review, a live 30-minute radio/TV/Internet simulcast examining the past week's news events, will debut tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 3, on the Voice of America

"On VOA News Review, we will draw on one of the greatest assets of VOA--its depth of experience in reporting worldwide news," says the program's anchor and veteran VOA broadcaster Neal Lavon.  "We will use this experience to examine in detail weekly events and explain why they are important."

VOA correspondents in the field, writers and reporters in Washington, and experts from VOA language services will join Neal Lavon on the program each week to discuss the major current events of the past seven days.  Many who have spent years reporting for VOA on radio will step before the cameras for the first time, providing contextual analysis of the stories they cover every day.

VOA News Review will become part of VOA's radio program VOA News Now and will be transmitted for television over WORLDNET Television's international satellite network.  It will be streamed live on the Internet (www.voanews.com) at the same time it is broadcast on radio and TV.

VOA News Review will be simulcast every Friday from 1930 to 2000 UTC (2:30 to 3:00 p.m. EST).  It will also be rebroadcast on television at 0100 UTC each Saturday.  After its live broadcast, VOA News Review will be available to our international audience on demand over the Internet.

The Voice of America broadcasts over 900 hours of news and information each week to an estimated worldwide audience of 91 million regular listeners. Broadcasting in 53 languages, VOA reaches its audience over radio, television and the Internet. The Voice of America first went on the air February 24, 1942.
