VOICE OF AMERICA BROADCASTING LIVE FROM SEATTLE 

Washington, D.C., June 15, 2001 – Seattle, Washington will capture the attention of millions around the globe next week, as a team of Voice of America (VOA) reporters broadcasts live from this city.  A nine-member team of VOA radio and TV journalists will be in Seattle June 17-23, 2001, providing VOA’s audience of some 91 million with an inside look at one of the American Northwest’s most-favored tourist spots.

Reporters will file live segments daily in English, Indonesian, Hungarian, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Dari on the lifestyle, culture, and environmental attractions of this Northwestern state.  Coverage will include interviews and stories on the Seattle-Tacoma ship port, one of the busiest ports in the nation; the diverse music industry; the rapidly-growing population of immigrants; the Boeing and Microsoft plants; the popular waterfront seafood establishment, Pike Place Market; a visit to Mt. Rainier, and much more.  In addition, VOA videojournalists will provide VOA’s avid TV audience with a comprehensive and insightful look at day-to-day life in a flourishing American city. 

Through these special broadcasts, VOA continues to provide its worldwide audience with an in-depth understanding of the American way of life.
