CANDACE WILLIAMS NAMED TO VOICE OF AMERICA POST

Washington, D.C., June 13, 2001 – Candace Williams has been named the Latin America Desk Editor at the Voice of America (VOA). 

Williams joined VOA as a radio broadcaster in September 1995. Williams previously worked in Atlanta as a freelance writer for local television stations, as a producer and writer for CNN World Report and Headline News, and as a writer and editor for WCNN Radio. 

While earning her Master’s degree in journalism at Georgia State University in 1989, Williams worked for IBM, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and United Press International. Williams earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology at Duke University in 1986. 

Williams, originally from Kingston, Jamaica, moved to the U.S. in December 1978, with her mother, Eva Collymore.

The Voice of America is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. Government. VOA broadcasts over 900 hours of news, informational, educational, and cultural programming every week to an audience of some 91 million worldwide. Programs are produced and broadcast in English and 52 other languages.
