MEDIA ADVISORY

VOA DEBUTS NEW EDITION OF
UKRAINIAN-LANGUAGE WINDOW ON AMERICA

Washington, D.C., June 23, 2000 -- The Voice of America's Window on America returns to the airwaves in Ukraine on Saturday, June 24, in a fast-paced news magazine format.  The Ukrainian-language program will be broadcast on the National Television Company of Ukraine at 6:20 p.m. (11:20 a.m. Washington time) every Saturday.

Window on America will use original video news and features to paint a portrait of the United States for viewers in Ukraine--how Americans solve their problems as well as how they live, work, and play.

Some of the features on Saturday's and upcoming broadcasts include stories on the recent controversy surrounding a nuclear facility in Paducah, Kentucky; corner stores in America; and St. Michaels parish, a Ukrainian Church in Philadelphia.

The program was broadcast in Ukraine for seven years between 1993 and 1999.

The Voice of America broadcasts world, regional, and U.S. news in 53 languages to an estimated weekly audience of 91 million people.
